After seeing an ad in Lancaster Farming in 2012, Nate contacted Quarry View about creating an agriculture facility for Scattered Acres Farms in Elysburg, PA. He came to us looking for a facility that could easily fit a shop area, an office, and all his farm equipment. With thousands of acres to farm, having a big facility was essential.
The structure itself is 16,000 square feet and is home to a 1,500–square foot office and a 6,400–square foot area for all the farming equipment. The building features radiant floor heat, a mezzanine, vaulted ceilings, perforated panels, and a six-foot overhang in front.
The farm has two sets of 24–foot wide and 34–foot wide doors for easy transportation of farming equipment. In order to accommodate the larger equipment, Nate wanted vaulted ceilings so that it would be simple to get combines into the building. We also used a poured-wall foundation for this agriculture construction project because a post-frame foundation can be easily disrupted by equipment.
One of the major features of the building was the perforated panels we used to help absorb the sound from the shop. Not only did it help keep the noise to a minimum, it also created a better work environment for employees. A six-foot overhang in front of the building creates a dry walkway and helps protect the building from rain damage. We concluded this project in the winter of 2013 and were happy to help Nate create an agriculture facility that works seamlessly for him.
